Voluntary Benefits

Each year at its Producer Conference (PC), Trustmark Voluntary Benefits awards the Trustmark Life Lessons Scholarship to a local student who has overcome the loss of a loved one to help further their academic and career ambitions.
On Feb. 2, Joson Thenthirath received a $7,500 Trustmark Life Lessons Scholarship at PC in Nashville. The scholarship increased 50 percent thanks to funding from the Trustmark Foundation. Additionally, Voluntary Benefits selected AssuredPartners as its Broker of the Year. Trustmark donated $5,000 to AssuredPartners’ designated nonprofit, the Special Olympics.

Thenthirath, whose father died when he was 14, scaled back his college plans due to financial constraints. He is attending a local school, Middle Tennessee State, where he is thriving; he has a 4.0 GPA and is on track to graduate early. Thenthirath shares more of his story in this video.
“To the people of Trustmark, this is truly a blessing,” he said. “I really appreciate that you are trying your best to help those who need it most.”
Trustmark’s Dan Schmid, VP, Sales, said the philanthropic portion of PC is integral.
“Recognizing the Life Lessons Scholarship recipient on the main stage is one of the most meaningful moments at PC,” Schmid said. “It is a privilege to have the chance to help a deserving young student and also to support a wonderful organization like the Special Olympics.”
